Las Cascadas Water Park In Aguadilla Reopen!

If you lived in Puerto Rico during your childhood, you most likely have fond memories of going down waterslides and jumping into the tide pool at Las Cascadas de Aguadilla. This water park which was originally inaugurated in 1985 was at the time one of the only and largest water parks in the Caribbean. Its numerous rides attracted people from all around the island and even tourists looking to escape the hot summer sun. Unfortunately, the Las Cascadas Water Park in Aguadilla was one of the many attractions in Puerto Rico that were heavily affected by Hurricane Maria, causing it to be closed for almost 6 years. Thankfully, Las Cascadas Water Park recently reopened in May of 2022 and are now ready to receive visitors once again!

If you want to visit Las Cascadas Water Park you can book an entrance on their website and choose whether you’re buying an adult and or children entrances, and the quantity you wish to purchase. On their website, you’ll also be able to purchase entrance to their nearby parking areas, and you’ll be able to rent out lockers to keep your personal belongings in. Once you pay, you’ll receive an email with QR codes that you’ll need to show at the entrance of the water park on the day that you’re planning to visit. You also have the option to buy entrance tickets at the water park, but you do run the risk of arriving after they have sold out.

If you’re heading to Las Cascadas Water Park from San Juan, you’ll need to drive west for about 1 hour and 45 minutes on the northern highway and on Route #2 all the way to the municipality of Aguadilla. Once you arrive at the water park, you’ll be directed to your designated parking area where you’ll show your parking entrance QR code, park your car, grab your belongings and head to the entrance. Here, you’ll be directed to the line for people who purchased their entrances on their website. I suggest that if you want to avoid having to make lengthy and time consuming lines to park your car, enter the water park and even go down the water slides, you should arrive as early as 9AM which is when the park opens. Remember, this park is extremely popular and gets really crowded during the weekends, especially now because it finally reopened after almost 6 years. So get there early or visit the water park during a weekday if possible, if you want to maximize your time there. Also, the park has historically been open only during summer months, so if you’re visiting during Christmas, make sure to check their social media accounts and website to verify if they are open.

After showing the QR code at the entrance you could either head to the small shop where you can pick up the keys to your locker or go directly through a security checkpoint where they’ll check that you’re not bringing any food and other potentially dangerous objects inside of the water park. Immediately after the checkpoint you’ll see the small lockers that are only accessible by the friendly park staff that help you get your belongings in and out of the locker. After this, it’s time to grab your sunscreen, towel, sunglasses and begin your day of adventure at Las Cascadas Water Park.

With so many exciting rides and attractions at Las Cascadas, it’s hard to know where to start! If you’re visiting the water park with small children, you’ll most likely spend a good portion of your time near the Villa Chiquitín and Chiqui Splash area. Here, you’ll find a colorful splash pad area with sprays, soakers, tunnels, arches and blasters that kids can spray each other with, as well as a large water playground with multiple exhilarating slides for kids to have some fun sliding down into the water below. Here, you’ll also find friendly lifeguards looking out for the safety of the kids enjoying this amazing water wonderland.

Cascadas de Aguadilla Kids Area

KID’S AREA

Right next to the Villa Chiquitín and Chiqui Splash you’ll find the large wave pool that progressively gets deeper the further in you go. Here, kids will be able to play in the shallow area and adults can venture into the deeper end to swim and battle against the consistent waves that the wave pool produces. After spending some time here, you might want to head over to the monkey bar area where you’ll have to use both your strengths and your balance to keep yourself above water while you try to cross all the way from one side of the pool to the other. Although this might seem easy, I can assure you that it’s equally as challenging as it is fun!

It’s now almost lunch time and you have used most of your energy having fun at these areas, so you might want to take a break and get some delicious food at either of the two food options located inside of the water park. At Pio Chicken you will find meals such as burgers and wraps made with chicken and at Mama Mia you’ll find pizzas, hotdogs, hamburgers and even empanadillas, a traditional puertorrican street food. And to top it all off, head over to Rainforest Ice Cream for some tasty desserts such as ice cream, caramel popcorn and even shakes.

Food at Las Cascadas Water Park

FOOD & BEVERAGE

With a full stomach, you’ll most likely want to either lounge in one of the many beach chairs around the water park or you could grab a floating tube and relax while going around the lazy river. This lazy river is long, spans almost all of the water park, and is the perfect place to take a break while you catch some sun.

Lazy River at Las Cascadas Water Park

LAZY RIVER

Once you’re ready, the next ride you should head over to is definitely the Crazy River. The Crazy River is similar to the Lazy River in that you’ll grab a floating tube for the ride, BUT the Crazy River has nothing relaxing about it. This exhilarating ride will make you go down steep water slides that go through tunnels, spin you around, throw you down rapids and even make you go through an artificial waterfall.

Rio Loco at Las Cascadas Water Park

CRAZY RIVER

Then, if you’re not too dizzy from that, you’ll want to head over to one of the main attractions at this water park, the long and loopy waterslides. For these slides, you’ll need to grab a water slide mat, head up the stairs and prepare to race your friends through the twists and turns of this water slide all the way down to the bottom pools.

Loopy Slides at Las Cascadas Water Park

LOOPY SLIDES

These slides are so exciting and fun that you’ll definitely want to ride them more than once! But remember, Las Cascadas Water Park is extremely popular and gets very crowded during the weekends, which means that during peak hours you might have to make a 45 minute long line just to ride the long water slides or even the Crazy River, so make sure to get there early, bring some sunblock, sunglasses and some patience for when you have to make a line to ride these slides. Also, when we visited, Las Cascadas Water Park had only completed phase one of their reopening plan, meaning that during future phases they will reopen more waterslides, which will hopefully help dissipate the long lines and lower the wait times to enjoy their rides.

Las Cascadas Water Park in Aguadilla is not the only attraction in Puerto Rico that has thankfully reopened after suffering damage from Hurricane María. On my YouTube channel I also have videos of other attractions such as El Portal Visitor Center in El Yunque and the famous Las Cavernas de Camuy, so if you want to learn what to  expect from these two attractions, make sure to head over to my channel and check those videos out.

And that’s it! I hope you found this travel guide helpful. Make sure to check out my YouTube channel, Brik’s Travel Guides, to see the full video of this and other Puerto Rico travel guides.
